You have selected Colgate Strong Teeth. Your toothpaste contains the following ingredients that you should be avoiding.
1. Titanium Dioxide (TiO2)
Added purely for aesthetics reasons, TiO2 has been found unsafe for human consumption by the European Union’s top food safety agency. The use of TiO2 as a food additive has been banned in the EU. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has linked inhalation of TiO2 to cancer. Given that some of the toothpaste we use daily gets inadvertently ingested, it is best to avoid TiO2 entirely.2. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)
SLS is a foaming agent that was originally developed for the laundry industry. The EWG’s Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database has categorized SLS as a “moderate hazard.” It has been linked to cancer, organ toxicity, skin irritation, endocrine disruption and neurotoxicity. SLS-free toothpastes have shown significant reduction in duration and pain among recurrent ulceration patients.3. Sodium Monofluorophosphate
Fluoride is usually added as a key ingredient in the form of Sodium Fluoride or Sodium Monofluorophosphate. While it is widely accepted, studies have shown that fluoride exposure can result in developmental neurotoxicity leading to cognitive defects among children. In high doses, fluoride can be toxic to adults as well and is increasingly being recognized as an unnecessary addition to toothpaste especially given the popularity of safer alternatives like hydroxyapatite.
